This perennial favourite is held at Woodhorn Museum in the QE2 Country Park which boasts a 16 hectare lake surrounded by developing woodland and open grasslands. The diverse and developing habitats around the lake now host a variety of birds, plants and mammals and the lake itself is host to both resident and migratory birds. Woodhorn Museum itself is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and has a range of fantastic activities and exhibits for all the family.
The QE2 country park is situated approximately 14 miles north of Newcastle Upon Tyne and 1 mile north of Ashington and this is our 'Home' for open water swim training in the summer months.
The 1 lap 750m swim will be in the warm shallow freshwater lake. The Lake is not exposed to current or tides so this makes the swim a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. The 1 lap 24km 'undulating' bike route will take you out towards Widdrington Village, before sweeping onto the coast road near Druridge Bay and then along to Cresswell village with some breath-taking views along the coast line. The 2 lap 6km run will be on the footpath that winds its way through the woodland and open grasslands that surround the lake. The 2 lap run passes the Start/Finish at the end of the first lap making this ideal for spectators to cheer everyone on to a great finish with a big smile. The QE2 triathlon is an ideal multi-sport event for all abilities, and you should be guaranteed a great race.
After a great deal of effort from the team, British Triathlon have awarded a 2 Star Mark of Quality for the QE2 Sprint Triathlon. VO2Max Racing Events were the first event in the country to be awarded this 2 Star Mark of Quality for the QE2 Sprint Triathlon which is a great achievement in itself. We pride ourselves on this and are always striving to improve the standard.
The minimum age for the Sprint Distance is 15 years old on 31st December 2015. Please note that all Youths (under 16 on 31st December 2015) must hand in a signed parental consent form at registration. The form can be downloaded from the event web page.
